Built for running lines

SideTape does one job: it gives you a scene partner whenever you need one. Here is what it can do.

Hands-free line runs

Rehearse listens as you speak and brings the reader in when you finish. Run lines with headphones while you walk or travel.

  • Listens on this device

Speech recognition runs on your iPhone or iPad, so your rehearsal is not sent anywhere.

  • Ask for help out loud

Say “Line”, “Whole line”, “Go back”, “Cue again”, “From the top” or “Pause”.

  • Headphone presses

Press once to pause or carry on, twice to move on, three times to go back a line.

  • Works with your phone locked

Keep your phone in your pocket. Rehearse keeps listening and answers your headphone button.

  • Natural or word-perfect

Natural rehearsal accepts everyday wording. Word-perfect wants the line as written.

  • Learns how you speak

Read a scene through once, if you like, so SideTape knows how you say your lines.

A reader for every other part

Choose a reader for each character. Mix them in one scene.

  • Phone voices

Apple’s voices on your iPhone or iPad. Ready at once, and nothing leaves this device.

  • Your own recordings

Record the other characters’ lines in your own voice and hear them back.

  • A friend’s recordings

Send a scene to a friend who has SideTape. They record their lines and send them back to you.

  • Optional AI readers

Voices made by ElevenLabs. SideTape asks before it sends a scene’s dialogue, then saves the audio for offline use.

Self-tapes on your mark

Set up once, then perform. SideTape handles the reader and the camera.

  • A reader in every take

Recorded or AI readers play underneath, or someone reads live in the room.

  • A prompter that follows you

Your lines move on as you say them.

  • Stops after the last line

The take ends by itself a few seconds after the scene ends. Start and stop with your headphone button.

  • Ready for casting

Trim the start and end, then export an MP4 with a file name casting can use.

  • Set the timing

Change the pauses between lines, and trim each recorded line, before you record.

  • An optional slate

Turn on a slate, and the reader waits until you have said it.

Learn lines

Get the words in before you rehearse.

  • Hear the scene

Play the scene with your readers, at the speed you choose, with your phone locked if you like.

  • Hide your lines in steps

Go from Full to first Words, first Letters, then Hide as the lines go in.

  • Notes and cues

Highlight words, add notes, and mark the words of your cue.

  • Hear yourself

Record your own lines to hear how you said them.

Any script, in a few taps

  • Scan, photos, files or text

Scan pages, choose photos, open a PDF or Word file, or paste text.

  • Tidied for you

Page numbers and “CONT’D” marks go, and speeches split across pages join up.

  • Easy to correct

Check what SideTape found, fix any line, and undo a change.

  • Try it straight away

A sample scene, “The last train”, comes with two built-in voices. Press Play at once.

Private by design

  • On this device

Scripts, recordings, rehearsal audio and self-tapes stay on your iPhone or iPad.

  • No account needed

Learn, rehearse and record without signing in.

  • AI readers ask first

Only the scene’s dialogue is sent, and only after you agree.

  • No advertising or tracking

The app has no analytics or advertising tracking.
